4 features that we will see in 2017 mobiles

If you are thinking of changing your mobile phone, you have a mobile that works well right now, and you think you could use it for a longer time, it is possible that one of the options you are considering is to wait another year and buy one of the mobile phones that it could come next year. If that is the case, it never hurts to know what will be the novelties of the mobiles that will arrive in 2017. These are the 4 characteristics that seem to be definitively established in the mobiles of 2017.

1.- 4K screens

Already last year, in 2015, a mobile with a 4K screen was launched, the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. The screen did not always work with this resolution, but the truth is that it was still the first smartphone with a screen with this resolution. Already next year, high-end mobiles would arrive with this resolution. This year we have definitely seen them with a Quad HD screen. There is talk of a Samsung Galaxy S8 that would have a 4K screen, so it seems clear and definitive that it will be one of the novelties of 2017. A higher resolution that we will see in high-end mobiles, although, yes, not in all mobiles, only on flagships.

2.- Headphones with digital connection

The jacks are going to disappear. There are already some other smartphones that do not have an analog jack for headphones. But it is said that the iPhone 7 would not have this either. It would have two main advantages. One of them is that the space it occupies and the thickness of the mobile are reduced. The other great advantage is that digital quality sound can be superior to sound that has been converted from digital to analog. Goodbye to poor quality DACs that convert the signal and lose quality. A digital signal for which, obviously, it will be necessary to have headphones that also connect USB Type-C. We will see that next year. And for 2017 we will have to change headphones, or buy some Bluetooth. Because it seems that the headphone jack is something we are going to have to forget.

3.- Flexible screens

People have been talking about flexible displays for years. And more specifically, flexible mobiles. It was believed that they would arrive in 2014. Then there was talk of 2015, and obviously 2016, as launch dates for flexible mobiles. Now it seems that Samsung will launch two smartphones with a flexible screen next year, in 2017. It may be the Samsung Galaxy S8 and some other, or it may be two other smartphones in addition to the flagship. It depends on what the company’s objective is and if they trust that they can already become the market reference. Be that as it may, it seems that they will arrive definitively in 2017, and that more companies would work on similar mobiles. LG would have similar screens, and even Apple could launch its own mobile with a screen powered by LG.

eSIM

4.- eSIM

What does seem much clearer that it will arrive in 2017 is the virtual SIM card, the one known until now as eSIM. It is about the possibility of forgetting about the SIM cards that we needed for the mobile phone, saving space on the mobile, and giving us the possibility of changing the operator in a much simpler and much faster way, as well as being able to hire an operator from another country when we travel abroad in a simple way. The eSIM has already been presented. It will begin to reach smart watches from now on. The first smartphones to incorporate it could be the iPhone 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, already in the second half of this year 2016. However, it will be in 2017 when it will become popular and users, in general, when they buy a new mobile , they may forget about the SIM card.
