Wikiloc is an app that will allow us to discover millions of outdoor routes with which to enjoy in more than 50 sports. Among these sports we find kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, etc. It is a very complete app that we are going to break down more deeply.
Options that wikiloc offers us
Among many options, Wikiloc offers us the opportunity to, once on the route predetermined by us, Record our routes, do Photos and upload them to Wikiloc. It also allows us to download topographic maps offline, totally successful if we take into account that we will use this app in the mountains, either for walking or for less topical uses such as finding geocaches in the Geocaching app.
It should be noted that to start a route, we will only have to pay € 5 per year or € 3 in three months. If we are really going to use it, it is totally recommended and the price we believe is more than justified.
How does it work
The operation of the application itself is simple. We must register to access first. Once registered, simply type in the browser the zone, mountain, route or trail that you would like to follow. Automatically, the application will offer us several options for search. Options that we can carry out depending on the sports that we have previously selected.
On the other hand, and once we have filtered our search and we already know the route we want, we click on it and it will appear “Follow the route”. we simply give it and go. Prior to this, before following the route, we can visualize aspects and details of the route that we will continue. Shows us the kilometers, unevenness, altitude maximum and minimum and the path. In short, elements that detail us even more if the hiking route that we are going to follow, for example if it is the Camino de Santiago.
In the settings that we can find within the application we can select the measure we want to measure the distance or parameterize aspects related to the screen during the journey. In addition, we can select a sport or sports modality default for routes.
Finally you can share your route with friends, in case they dare to participate. Finally, we want to highlight that if we look for a route that is in high mountains for example, or a cave, the application gives us the option of accessing it by nearest point by car, something really useful, which will make us completely forget about another GPS, since it integrates it for this purpose.
