Galaxy S8 vs iPhone X vs Essential PH-1 vs Xiaomi Mi MIX 2
In this article we are not going to talk about the technical characteristics of each mobile. Each of the four smartphones are the flagships of their manufacturers. Actually, they are very similar in technical characteristics, and they are four high-end mobiles. If one seems better than another for users, it is not because they have better technical characteristics, but because that user prefers the interface of a smartphone.
Thus, the article is simply a comparison of mobiles for their screen without bezels. In general, all manufacturers claim that their phones have an “edge-to-edge” screen, but the truth is that the only relevant thing is to know which mobile has a better design. For this reason, we have used front images of each of the smartphones, and we have resized them to the official width published by the manufacturer of each smartphone. In this way, we can see all four smartphones in a single image.
On the far left you find the Essential PH-1, a smartphone that has not yet been officially presented in Europe, but that I wanted to include because I consider that the design of the iPhone X is clearly inspired by the design of the Essential PH-1. Logically, the second mobile is the new Apple smartphone, the iPhone X, and the third the Samsung Galaxy S8. The last one is the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2.
As you can see, the large format smartphone is the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, but it is also logical, as it has a 6-inch screen, being somewhat larger than the other two smartphones. The Essential PH-1 might seem the most compact, but it’s actually because it has a 5.71-inch screen. And the iPhone X and the Samsung Galaxy S8 have a 5.8-inch screen.
Both the iPhone X and the Essential PH-1 integrate the front camera and speaker in the upper section taking up space on the screen. In my opinion, it’s not the best. It is a section of the screen that becomes useless. It is true that, for example, Apple has made the iPhone X somewhat lower than the Samsung Galaxy S8. Although in reality, it does so by subtracting space from the screen. We are talking about a 5.8-inch screen, but almost the entire top section should not be counted.
However, for me the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the best for having the Infinity Display screen. Looking at the iPhone X, I cannot claim that it is a smartphone without bezels. It does have bezels. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 and the Essential PH-1 too, although the side bezels are thinner than in the case of the Apple mobile. However, in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S8, the curved screen makes the screen appear infinite. And it seems to me that it is a really good design.
