One of the problems with many of the new wearable devices presented by different manufacturers is that they are not usually compatible with smartphones or tablets from other manufacturers. It was the case of the Samsung Galaxy Gear. However, it seems like the transition to Tizen might have ended this. The Gear Fit bracelet already works with non-Samsung smartphones.
At least, that is what the video that you find below shows, in which we do not see any of the smartphones of the South Korean company, but the one that had been Sony’s flagship until now, the Xperia Z1. The terminal of the Japanese company works perfectly with the Gear Fit, and best of all, it is not necessary to make any changes to the smartphone system, or to the smart bracelet. Of course, it is necessary to install the application required to control the Gear Fit, the same one that we would need to have on any Samsung Galaxy smartphone to control the bracelet, so it is not normal to have to carry out this process.
The news is really positive, as the previous Samsung Galaxy Gear was not compatible with smartphones from other manufacturers. Only with some modifications it was achieved that some of the smartphones will work with the clock, but the truth is that the level of compatibility is practically null. It is possible that the fact that Tizen is now the operating system that the bracelet has allows greater compatibility options. However, we still do not know if the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo will be compatible with smartphones from other manufacturers. If that were the case, it is possible that even the previous Samsung Galaxy Gear will become compatible with more smartphones, as it will also update to a new version that changes its operating system to Tizen.
