New search bar in Google Now Launcher, goodbye to the sliding panel?
Google Now Launcher It is the launcher that came standard on many devices that used the stock version of Android. Nowadays it has evolved into the Android One launcher and the Pixel Launcher, so it somehow lives in the background. However, this does not mean that it does not receive updates, some notorious, like the one we are dealing with today. And it is that from the American company they are testing a new style of search bar that represents an important change in the usability of the application.
As you can see in the previous image, a new button has been added to the right of the search bar. After the logo, the text of Ok Google and the microphone, we find a start button which, when pressed, shows the Google Now panel with the news feed which is usually accessed by sliding from the left. On the one hand, this new search bar seems to bring together too many elements, so on a stylistic level it may not be the most attractive. On the other hand, it is a new way to access an old function, something that can be related to the current position of the search bar in the Pixel Launcher.
Today, the search bar for Pixel phones is in the dock, below the icons. This makes it primarily accessible via the thumb without having to fully stretch the hand to the top. By placing a new button capable of extending the Google Now panel in that position, actions are concentrated in the lower area of the screen. In this way, large screens without frames They can be fully used for multimedia consumption, but they do not pose major problems for the user to use them, preventing them from reaching any element. Considering these elements and this trend in Android interface design, this search bar in testing in Google Now Launcher may be a preview of what is to come.
