It is very easy to use YouTube or other streaming services and audiovisual content, they all work in a similar way, so it is sure that it also works for other platforms such as Netflix, HBO or others.
Connect your mobile to the Chromecast
The first of all is to connect your mobile to the Chromecast. Although first we go in parts. The Chromecast works through HDMI, so the first thing we will have to do is select the corresponding HDMI input of our television. Once this is done, we can proceed to connect our mobile to the Chromecast.
To do this we will have to download the application Google Home. There we can add and configure our Chromecast with the Wi-Fi network of the house and the code that appears on the screen, it is very easy. When we open the app, click on “+” to add our Chromecast, it will search for it, select it, enter the Wi-Fi network and select “Yes” when we see the corresponding code.
Once configured we will have to be connected to the same network as our Chromecast (it can also be the same network but 5GHz). If so, when opening Youtube We will see a transmission icon at the top of the screen (an icon of a screen with some transmission lines). When we click there, a list of places where we can send it will appear, our Chromecast must be in this list, we select it.
Play Videos and Play Queue
Now you will see that the YouTube interface changes slightly, and it is that a bar has been added below, where we will have our video queue. That we can add.
To play a video we will only have to search for it on YouTube, browsing the application as normal. By clicking on the video it will automatically play on our television. From our phone we can pause it, move forward or backward, go to the next video, etc. You can do it from the bottom of the screen or by clicking on the video while it plays so that the controls appear.
While you play the video you can continue browsing the app, and if you want to see a video as soon as the one you are watching ends, you can click on the three points next to the video and select Add to queue.
This will create a video queue, which you can use to have a small (or large) playlist that will automatically play at the end of each video.
To see the queue we only need to press at the bottom of the screen. There we will see the videos that we have in our queue, we can also deactivate or activate automatic playback, for when it finishes playing the entire queue.
If we want to remove one of the videos from the queue we can click on the three points that we have on the right side of each video and select Remove from Cola. So we can remove it without problems if we have made a mistake or we no longer want to see that video.
Social factor, shared queue
Another advantage is that just as you have connected, your friends who have their mobile phone connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast can. They can connect and add things to the queue in a shared way. So everyone can put videos, songs, etc. to their liking.
Someone connecting does not delete the queue created so far, but it is possible that if the first one who created it disappears.
Volume control and disconnection
Although the volume is recommended to control it from the volume control of your television or sound system, you can also do it from your mobile. If you are in the YouTube app (and even without being connected) you can lower the volume from the volume buttons of your mobile phone.
If we want to disconnect we will have to click on the icon where we have connected and click stop sending.
What do you think? Useful? Do you already know how to play content on your Chromecast?
