With Leica per flag for Dual camera
Huawei and Leica announced their collaboration with the Huawei P9, the company’s first smartphone to feature a dual Leica-certified camera with two sensors, one monochrome and the other RGB to capture more light and take better photographs. Today that has gone to the next level with the dual camera that the Huawei Mate 9 has, and that takes the collaboration between Leica and Huawei one step further.
Also Dual, although different. In this case we find two sensors, arranged vertically, being of different resolution, unlike what happened with the Huawei P9, in which we found two sensors with the same resolution. In this case, we go to 20 megapixels in the case of the monochrome camera, which will capture the light, and we are left with the 12 megapixels for the RGB sensor that will capture the color. A very interesting combination of cameras inspired by the way the human eye captures the image.
To this must be added a further double LED flash which will be located on one side of the two-chamber core, and a laser that will serve for the autofocus system, and will attend the phase detection approach that will include the smartphone.
In addition to this, the smartphone will be able to record in 4K, of course, including optical image stabilization. All with a front camera of 8 megapixels.
5.9 inch Full HD display
The smartphone screen is also going to be something that especially stands out. And is that with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 out of the game, we only had this Huawei Mate 9 as the last hope for large format smartphones. The screen is 5.9 inch, and has a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels that makes this Huawei Mate 9 not reach what is seen in other large smartphones. In any case, it is a resolution that will offer us a good image quality, with a color gamut of 96%, and with a contrast ratio of 1500: 1. The technology of this screen is LCD, so it is not AMOLED.
Hyper-fast charging battery
However, something that I especially liked and that I think does make this smartphone different is its fast charging system, a special system because it improves on everything we have seen so far. Huawei presented it months ago, although as a system that would come to its smartphones in the future. And now it’s here. This fast charging system is novel, because it exceeds in speed all those that have been launched so far, and all this taking into account that the battery has a capacity of 4,000 mAh, which is certainly something quite remarkable. Of course, you will have to use the own charger that comes with the Huawei Mate 9.
The design of the mobile is also one of the key elements in this Huawei Mate 9. Glass for the front, logical, because it is the screen. Metal for the unibody body in which all the components are integrated, including the fingerprint reader under the main camera. A priori, nothing out of the ordinary in a high-end smartphone although there are some interesting details. This is the case, for example, of the minimalism that we find on the front, where there are no buttons, but simply the Huawei logo on the lower bezel, and the earpiece, sensors and front camera on the upper bezel. The screen occupies a large part of the front, with almost no side bezels, which has already become a characteristic of the high-end.
The smartphone arrives in colors gray, gold, silver, copper, white and matt black.
Regarding the dimensions of the mobile, it will have a height of 156.9 millimeters, with a width of 78.9 millimeters, and a thickness of 7.9 millimeters. Its weight will be 190 grams.
Processing at high speed
The Huawei Mate 9 also comes with a new processor, the Kirin 960, which improves on the previous one that we saw in the Huawei P9, and will be a progress with respect to the previous generation of the company’s flagships. In addition, this chip promises to be at the level of the best processors on the market, and taking into account that it is a processor of its own design, the optimization that it will have will be something to highlight. To this we must add some things. The Kirin 960 is an eight-core processor, composed of two clusters, one of them having cores with architecture Cortex-A73, being the first processor to have this type of architecture. For this reason, it is capable of surpassing all other processors on the market. To this we must add an i6 co-processor designed by Huawei, and that will serve to manage all the background activities of the smartphone, such as the sensors it includes, and others. All with a 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory.
Although we still do not have an official launch date, we do know that Huawei will have Europe among its main markets, and that it will arrive in Spain. It should be available early next December. The price of Huawei Mate 9 official in our country will be about 700 euros, so it will be a self-priced flagship for this smartphone. It will be necessary to see if it arrives in all the colors in which it has been presented, or if some of them will be more complex to achieve than others.
On EMUI 5 We will talk in a special article dedicated to the new version of the operating system based on Android 7.0 Nougat. This will also be the case in the case of the new Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design.
