We start by talking about the screen because it is one of the key features of one of these two smartphones. The LG G3 was one of the first smartphones to have a screen with a Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, which are the screens that we will still see present in the flagships of this year 2016. And all despite having been launched two years before. The screen is 5.5 inches, like the Motorola Moto X Play, although in the latter case, it is a screen with a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. If what you are looking for is the best screen, the LG G3 is the best choice, even being a mobile launched a year earlier.
What is clear is that the generation difference between the two phones: LG G3 (2014), Motorola Moto X Play (2015), and the difference in range, leads us to find two phones that are very similar. For example, in terms of performance, they are similar phones, even with significantly different processors. The LG G3 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, a high-end quad-core processor from 2014. The Motorola Moto X Play features the Qualcomm Snadpragon 615, an eight-core, high-end processor from 2015. But it seems that this last processor is somewhat better than the LG G3. The RAM in both cases, in the versions of these smartphones that have the same price, is 2 GB, with an internal memory of 16 GB. Thus, although they are similar in terms of the performance of the two phones, the truth is that in this regard it is best to buy the Motorola Moto X Play, as it is somewhat better. In addition, it has a more advanced graphics processor, proof that it surpasses its rival. However, it must also be said that not by much.
Difference in cameras
As for the cameras these smartphones have, they are remarkably different. The LG G3 has a 13-megapixel camera from Sony, a quality camera two years ago, but of course, it was not the most outstanding technical characteristics of this smartphone. The opposite is the case with the Motorola Moto X Play, a smartphone that has a 21-megapixel Sony camera. Also, it is generally a better quality camera.
Now, we must also take other characteristics into account, such as the battery that both smartphones have. While the LG G3 is a flagship and has a 3,000 mAh battery, which is a considerable capacity, the Motorola Moto X Play is a smartphone designed for gaming, so it has a battery with a higher capacity of 3,620 mAh, something that could be decisive. Of course, the latter is not compatible with wireless charging, as is the case in the LG G3, a mobile phone that also gives us the possibility of changing the battery for a second battery that we have bought or replacing it when it begins to lose its normal autonomy. However, I would like to highlight one last aspect, and that is the water resistance that the Motorola Moto X Play does have.
The two mobiles have a price of between 270 and 280 euros, a very similar price for two mobiles that are similar as they are at the same level, but are actually very different. If I had to choose one of the two phones, I would buy the Motorola Moto X Play. Although it is not a proper flagship, as the LG G3 is, it is more modern, has more battery, a better camera, and water resistance. Due to these characteristics, it seems to me a better mobile and a better purchase.
