Mute and hang up calls with your Android’s power button

Multi-function buttons

It is curious, because with the decreasing number of physical buttons that smartphones include, these have had to be converted into multifunction buttons. They are no longer valid only to turn off the phone, but now they also have to turn off the screen with a simple touch, or launch a window of shutdown, silence or screenshot options. Something similar happens with the volume buttons, which act as photo triggers, or scroll devices for the screen window. All not to mention the Home button / fingerprint reader / virtual assistant launcher. That is why, sometimes, something as basic as silencing or hanging up a call is something that we do not know how to do if we have not studied the manual of our smartphone well.

Using the off button

Obviously, this will only be useful if you are a slightly advanced user. If you are a regular smartphone user, you probably already know this. When you receive a call, and you want your smartphone to stop ringing, you don’t always have to reject the call. What’s more, sometimes you may not even want the caller to know that you are on the other end of the phone and that you have rejected the call. You may think that you cannot do anything else, but it is not like that. The off button on your smartphone has precisely the function of silencing the call. By pressing this button, the smartphone will stop ringing, although you will continue to receive the call, so you could answer it at any time. Maybe it’s perfect for a meeting where you don’t want your smartphone to keep ringing, but you want to respond when you get up and leave the room.

What if you are already on the phone? It is not the first time that we make a comment criticizing the person who calls us before hanging up the call. To hang up, today, it is necessary to look at the screen and press the red button on the software of our smartphone. But sure, our smartphone sometimes slows down and crashes. What if the button does not respond or does not detect that we are pressing it? Having a physical button to hang up the call is always a good thing. To be able to activate this button with this function you will have to go to Settings> Accessibility> “The power button hangs up” and we leave this box checked. Now, to hang up calls, we will only have to press the physical power button.
