Samsung already gives the option to deactivate the Bixby Home button

It is now possible to deactivate the Bixby Home button

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a button exclusively to activate Bixby. Samsung’s goal was for users to use the smart assistant. However, the truth is that it has not been very successful. Mainly because the smart assistant has not been available worldwide until the month of August. And what’s more, it’s only available in English (and Korean), so many users can’t use it. Thus, an exclusive button for a somewhat useless service does not seem very logical. And more when it consumes battery. When we accidentally press the Bixby button, a Google Now style window is activated, with recent information such as messages or emails received or weather data.

Well, now it is possible to disable the Bixby Home button. Now pressing the button will no longer access Bixby Home. However, if instead of pressing a single time, we keep the button pressed, we will continue accessing Bixby Voice. While it is true that the smart assistant is not available in Spanish, the goal is for it to become a really useful smart assistant.

In any case, the fact that it is now possible to disable the Bixby Home button is only useful to save battery, although what would be ideal is that it could be configured to run WhatsApp or Gmail.

Bixby Voice in Spanish

Perhaps when it is presented in Spanish we can confirm that it is useful, but at the moment almost no user in Spain is going to use it, even if they know English.

One of the defects of Bixby Voice, as well as of the other smart assistants, is the difficulty to understand the user, and speaking in English with a Spanish accent will not be useful at all to get them to understand us, and more so when even users from the United Kingdom and the United States cannot be understood because of the difference in accent between the two.

Most likely, Bixby Voice will not be presented in Spanish until 2018. And even so, we can consider that it is something positive, because Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world. Much more complex will be that Bixby Voice arrives in German or Italian, languages that are spoken in very few countries.

Be that as it may, it is very possible that Bixby will not be really useful for users in Spain until 2018, probably until the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S9. However, at least users who have a Galaxy S8 can count on the smart assistant, even if they no longer have the best mobile on the market.
