In the official website of the company in which we talk about the protection we are talking about, with interesting data everything has to be said, now you can perfectly read that it is “recommends do not use the devices underwater”. This is because in “The tests carried out have used laboratory conditions, so it is not advisable to use submerged terminals, for example taking photos”. A clear and evident change.
The truth is that it is still surprising, since I myself have been able to use the company’s models underwater, even taking photos, and little or nothing has happened to them. But you have to think that problems will have been found regarding this type of use that have made Sony’s recommendations change in this regard. Also, do not forget that the IP68 standard it protects the devices at a depth of 1.5 meters for a time of 30 minutes … but here, perhaps, the use of mechanisms and buttons does not enter.
This can be the big problem, since when testing in laboratories the protection offered by the certification that is present in Sony devices, the aforementioned IP68, the resistance is optimal. But, for example, using an Xperia Z3 in the pool where you can bump or subject this phone to non-recommended uses – fast movements for example – is what has led the company to change the recommendation. This would make sense, since the conditions are not the same, that is evident … but until now nothing had been said.
But it is no less true that Sony has used many times as an advertisement the use of its models with protection against immersion to take photos under water. An example are the two images that we leave below, which belong Xperia Z3 or Xperia M2 Aqua. Therefore, something must have happened and the company detected with the terminals that have been sold, such as a high number of shipments to the technical service. This will have to be known over time.
The fact is that the new recommendation is present on the official Sony page, but the ideal would be to be much clearer regarding the reason that has led to this being so (beyond the aforementioned tests in the laboratories). For our part, we are going to ask to see if we have a clearer answer for this change. While waiting for this, what do you think of the change that has occurred?
