Synchronization with the Google account is essential on any Android smartphone. The truth is that to download applications we even need to do it through our account, so considering having an Android without an active Google account is crazy. Once we log in, even if we don’t realize it, our account synchronizes a lot of data, such as the calendar, contacts, and other items. Sometimes, however, these options are not active, so we must do it manually. We are going to see how to activate the synchronization of contacts and how to always have them saved in our Google account.
1.- We access Settings and Accounts
The first step is to access the accounts section of our device, something that may differ slightly depending on the version of Android we have. In any case, in general, we must access Settings> Accounts> Google. Up to Gingerbread and Honeycomb, Accounts is a folder within Settings. As of Ice Cream Sandwich, Accounts is no longer a folder, it is a section within Settings. The objective is to reach Google, within Accounts, within Settings.
2.- We access the corresponding account
At this time, we will most likely be shown the accounts with which we have logged into Google. It’s easy for only one to appear, although it doesn’t have to. We click on the one that interests us the most, the personal account, if we have several. A “Synchronization is disabled” message may be displayed, this does not mean that we cannot perform a one-time synchronization.
3.- We start the synchronization
Right now we will be facing the different elements that we can synchronize, such as the calendar, contacts, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Reader, Browser, etc. Depending on the version of the operating system, the process to synchronize may be different, but in any case, it is usually only necessary to click on the item to synchronize, in this case, Contacts. We can also press the Android Menu button and select Synchronize now, which will synchronize all the elements.
4.- We wait for the process to finish
Obviously, if we have many contacts, and we have never synchronized before, it will most likely take a few minutes to synchronize everything. We wait for this to end. Although we have not mentioned it, it is absolutely necessary to have an Internet connection so that our contacts can synchronize with our Google account.
From now on, every time we are going to create a new contact and it appears that we select the directory in which we want to do it, we must select our Google account. On the other hand, we must not forget to repeat this synchronization process every so often, in order not to lose the new contacts that we have added. If we have the synchronization always active on our smartphone, and the process marked as automatic, we will not have problems, since it will do it alone. However, if not, we must do it manually from time to time.
This same process is useful if we acquire a new mobile and we want to do it in reverse. From our Google account all the contacts will be synchronized to our smartphone, without having to waste time or copy them to the SIM. And the same can be done with any iOS device, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and company. Transfer contacts from another smartphone to an Android or from an Android to another smartphone must be done through the Google account, as it is the simplest method.
