The Huawei Mate S that has just been presented is a high-end smartphone, of a very high level, but the truth is that it is perceived that it is not the smartphone that was initially going to be launched. In fact, it was said that this would be the Huawei Mate 8, but given the impossibility of launching it with the new processor, they have decided to launch an improved version of the Huawei Mate 7, with greater capacity to rival the large mobile phones on the market such as the iPhone 6s. Next-gen Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +. Even so, its eight-core Huawei Kirin 935 processor offers us good performance. Perhaps a notch below what we see in the latest large Apple and Samsung phones, but with a difference that we will also find in the price. However, with its 3 GB RAM memory, and an internal memory of 32 GB or 64 GB we can be very clear that the performance of the mobile will be very good.
As in the case of the previous Huawei Mate 7, and something that has already become common in this company, the Huawei Mate S is a smartphone with a great design. Its height is 157 millimeters, with a width of 81 millimeters, and a thickness of 7.2 millimeters, with bezels of only 2.65 millimeters. But best of all, it is built with an aluminum unibody casing that is for the rear section and the frame of the smartphone, with a 2.5D Gorilla Glass front glass that gives it a very remarkable finish and scratch resistance.
Screen and camera
But if there is something that always stands out in a smartphone, it is the screen and the camera. We are talking about a 5.5-inch screen, which reminds us a lot of the iPhone 6 Plus, although in this case there will be relevant differences. Not so much in the resolution, which will also be Full HD of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, as in its technology, since it is a Super AMOLED display, with the advantages that this means in terms of the most vivid colors , and battery saving in the absence of black lighting.
To this should be added its camera, 13 megapixels for the main unit, and 8 megapixels for the front unit. Although, yes, it must be said that if the camera stands out for something it is precisely because of the software. With the possibility of managing the ISO settings, and exposure time, it will give many more possibilities to users who are interested in the world of photography.
Fingerprint reader and Force Touch
To the above we should add what for me is the most remarkable thing about this smartphone and makes it truly novel. First of all, Apple’s imitated Force Touch technology, which is capable of differentiating the pressure levels we exert on the screen. With different pressure levels the possibilities of the touch screen multiply. It is one of the most relevant news because not even Apple has already launched its smartphone with this technology, despite the fact that it is something that has been talked about for a long time.
Of course, the Huawei Mate S also has a fingerprint reader, which in this case is located on the back cover, under the main camera. It must be said that this reader also becomes a button on the smartphone itself, being able to even manage notifications or accept a call using only the fingerprint reader.
Perhaps the worst thing about this smartphone is the battery. We say the worst because it is a battery with a capacity of only 2,700 mAh, very little if we take into account that the previous Huawei Mate 7 exceeded 4,000 mAh. Even so, it is claimed that the smartphone exceeds the autonomy of a full day, so it still does not have a bad autonomy.
Availability and price
The Huawei Mate S will officially arrive on September 15, and we already know how much it will cost. The most basic version, with 32 GB internal memory, will have a price of 649 euros, while the version with 64 GB memory will have a slightly higher price of about 700 euros.
It will be available in four colors: a version with a gray back shell and a black front, a silver and white version, a gold version and a pink version.
