High level design
LG knew that this year would be very difficult with a smartphone like the LG G3, as both the iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 have made it clear that 2015 will be the year in which the design of smartphones will become mainstream . However, LG has managed to change direction and launch a smartphone with a design that stands out a lot for its handmade leather casing. This case has a vegetable tanning process, a process in which the skin is also tinted, and which leaves us in total six versions of the smartphone with this case: the brown one that we had already seen, a classic black, sky blue, yellow, beige and garnet red. LG has not wanted to imitate Apple with aluminum or Samsung with glass, and has preferred to opt for high-quality leather, something that will undoubtedly attract a lot of attention from those users who are looking for a great design but who are tired of the same year after year. By the way, it should also be noted that there will be three versions with a more basic casing, with a three-dimensional design in the colors: silver, gold and dark gray.
Continuing with the design of LG G4 the fact that it is going to be curved should also be highlighted. Not as much as the LG G Flex 2 or any other smartphone with a curved screen that we have seen on the market. This slight curve of the smartphone makes it easy to use, given its large size, and is very useful to avoid a critical hit when hitting the ground in a face-down fall. Of course, it is still an element that gives it a very striking visual appearance.
Leaving the design behind, what most catches our attention in the LG G4 is the camera. Not surprisingly, it is one of the main elements that lead users to decide between one smartphone and another. In this case, we find a camera with a 16 megapixel sensor, something that is not so strange within what are the flagships. However, the F / 1.8 lens aperture is more remarkable, which manages to capture 20% more light than the LG G3 camera. Light is what ultimately determines the quality of a photograph, so in this case we are talking about a remarkably important improvement for this smartphone. However, the most notable thing has to do with the options that are given to the user, who may be responsible for selecting the shutter speed, ISO, focus, exposure compensation and white balance, and who will have the Opportunity to store photos in RAW so that later modifications can be made to photos in digital development. The front camera, on the other hand, is eight megapixels, with an aperture of F / 2.0, which will allow us to capture good quality selfies.
Regarding the video camera, we find a camera capable of recording in 4K, although with 2.0 optical image stabilizer, with a greater stabilization angle, and with an additional axis on which to move the camera to increase said stabilization.
A screen at the level of LG
Being one of the largest screen manufacturers in the world always makes the screens you install on your devices also one of the best. In the case of LG G4 we find a 5.5-inch display, slightly curved, and with a Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. It is an IPS LCD screen, so it reminds us a lot of the iPhone screen, a screen that, on the other hand, is also considered one of the best on the market. Perhaps its size is what surprises us the most, as it exceeds that of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and is equal to that of the iPhone 6 Plus, which is perhaps its most direct rival. Best of all, that slight curve in the screen would reduce the overall size of the smartphone in height, and make it more comfortable to use.
To all the above, it would be necessary to add some technical specifications typical of a flagship. You could not miss the one that has already become the standard RAM memory in any high-end smartphone, with a 3 GB unit. Meanwhile, the internal memory goes to 32 GB, expandable, yes, by means of a microSD card. Its battery will be 3,000 mAh, and it can be easily replaced, just by removing the back cover, a feature that has been removed on the Samsung Galaxy S6. But the most relevant of all has to do with the processor, on which the company has not wanted to place much emphasis. We are talking about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, a lower version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, which has six cores, instead of eight cores. The company will have tried to optimize it to the maximum so that the operation and performance is good, but it is difficult to compete with a higher level processor. Of course, the big problem with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is that the high temperature it reaches makes manufacturers have to use it at half throttle, so in the end, a processor without problems that can be used at maximum performance is almost better. consumes less energy. Be that as it may, LG has not been amused by the problems of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. Apart from this, it comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop, with an interface customized by LG and completely renewed, as well as Bluetooth, WiFi and 4G.
Price and availability
We still do not know exactly when the new one will hit the European market LG G4. Although it has already been confirmed that it will be available tomorrow in South Korea, so it is to be expected that we will soon also have it in Spain. Its price has not been confirmed yet, and it is said that it will be officially confirmed in each market. Even so, yesterday we could already know something about the price of it, knowing that the version with a leather casing will be somewhat more expensive, but that the most basic version would be priced even somewhat cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S6.
Update: European press states that the price will be 649 euros for the basic version, and 699 euros for the version with a leather case.
