1.- Magnesium construction
One of the novelties that will arrive with the first high-end smartphones will be the magnesium construction. Magnesium, like aluminum, is a metal. The construction of some new smartphones will be made of magnesium, and the great advantage is that, even being made of metal, they will be even lighter smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S7 will be one of these smartphones that will feature a magnesium construction.
2.- Ultrasonic fingerprint reader
All flagships already have a fingerprint reader. However, in 2016 new smartphones with an ultrasound fingerprint reader could begin to arrive. The main advantage of these smartphones would be that the fingerprint reader would be integrated into the smartphone itself, and probably behind the screen. Thus, the fingerprint reader could be, for example, in the center of the screen, thus being much more useful. It was believed that the new Xiaomi Mi 5 would arrive with an ultrasound fingerprint reader, but in the end it would not be the case, so it is likely that the mobiles with this reader are those that are launched in the second half of 2016.
3.- 4K screens
There is already a smartphone that has had a 4K screen of those launched this year 2015, the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. However, this 4K display is only used with images and videos in this resolution, not with the standard interface. Will more smartphones with 4K screens arrive next year? Battery life is something that seems key for mobile phones to arrive with 4K screens. But also, Samsung and LG would not launch phones with these screens, at least in the first half of the year. Thus, if it is launched, it would not be until the end of next year when a smartphone with a 4K screen would be launched.
4.- Folding screens
It was said that Samsung would launch a new smartphone with a folding screen later this year, in 2015. However, it is clear that Samsung will not launch any such smartphone this year. It was later said that it could launch in January. However, now it seems clear that the Samsung Galaxy S7 is the new flagship that would be launched in February, and that this new smartphone with a folding screen would not be launched until later. This new folding screen smartphone may be the new Samsung Galaxy Note 6, or it may be launched as a different mobile just to see if users find it an interesting mobile.
5.- Real wireless charging
So far, wireless charging was quite false, since a base is necessary and the mobile has to be on that base. However, real wireless chargers, capable of charging a battery from half a meter away, could start to launch next year. This would already be a novelty. However, it is not confirmed that any smartphone manufacturer is going to launch a charger and a smartphone compatible with this technology.
6.- High speed fast charging
Smartphones still have a fairly poor battery life. However, the battery now charges very fast, thanks to technology like Qualcomm’s Quick Charge. This technology has already reached its version 3.0, and next year it is likely to reach a new version. The faster the battery can be charged, the less relevant will be the autonomy of the smartphone. News regarding fast charging may arrive next year. Mainly, external batteries compatible with fast charging will arrive, something very relevant to be able to charge the battery in a short time wherever we are.
