High level specifications
Let’s start by talking about the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S5. We are not going to focus on data that is already known, and that you can see in this article in which we analyzed the smartphone. We simply want to emphasize that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is at the level of the rest of the flagships on the current market. It is not better, it must also be said. Simply in this aspect we find the same as in other smartphones. It is true that the LG G3 has a higher resolution screen, which we will talk about later, and that the Sony Xperia Z2 has a 3 GB RAM, whose performance is not noticeable either. However, in absolute terms, which is what we are going to talk about, I consider the Samsung Galaxy S5 to be superior to all the others.
It is not easy to talk about smartphones based on technical specifications, because the truth is that one is making mistakes. We can’t say that a higher resolution screen is better than one with a lower resolution simply because of that. Actually, there are many more things to consider. And as much as we say, the truth is that we can never speak properly until we have analyzed what the performance of each of the screens is. They are not wrong when they say that the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the best that has ever been installed on a smartphone. The LG G3 has a higher resolution, and is a very high quality screen. However, the contrast, the brightness of the colors, and all the screen settings of the Samsung Galaxy S5 make it something different. The fact that it is a Super AMOLED screen, and the years that Samsung has been developing this technology, have played a decisive role.
For me, the fact that it is the best screen on the market, when we talk about a smartphone that is almost all screen, is something main.
Yes, it is true that we say that the Nexus have a very high level of performance thanks to the fact that Google does not install any layer of software that slows down the smartphone. And it’s true. However, the Samsung interface does not slow down the Samsung Galaxy S5. Not for nothing, but because the components that the smartphone has are of such a high level that they have no problem running the Samsung interface. However, we don’t want to talk about the interface, which for me is quite ugly, and that is why I always change the launcher. When we talk about software, we talk about applications like S Health. For me, it is one of the best features of the Samsung Galaxy S5. Being able to keep track of caloric expenditure and also food consumption, in a single application, with the addition of the heart rate and stress monitor, seems to me to be a very high level.
But we are not talking only about that, but also about options such as Multiwindow, which allows us to run two applications simultaneously, one in each section of the screen. It is said that it could be one of the novelties of iOS 8, as if it were a great feature. To all this we must add energy saving systems, and extreme energy saving, systems with which more and more smartphones already have, but which are still something to highlight in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Better design and water resistance
And finally, I don’t want to forget the design issue. For my taste, Samsung has always been a company that has not designed well. When the Samsung Galaxy S5 was launched, I couldn’t see any difference from the Samsung Galaxy S3. However, it is those details that are only seen when one has the smartphone that should be highlighted the most. The back cover is not plastic that imitates leather. It is plastic with a texture that ensures that the smartphone does not slip, and that it is very easy to use. It truly gives it a premium look, despite being plastic.
Now, what I appreciate the most is the water resistance of the smartphone. Perhaps it happens to me because I am more clumsy, the kind that destroys mobiles based on falls. In the case of people who have never dropped a mobile, then this feature is probably not so important. However, for me it is. And it’s great to always be able to carry your shiny smartphone with you by opening the tap and cleaning it with water. The sealing of the screen is perfectly noticeable, as well as that of the back cover, and that of the charging cover. They seem really tough.
However, these are just words. Throughout the next week, we will be publishing a series of smartphone videos, analyzing each of the elements that we have talked about in this article, so that you can check more precisely what we mean, without having to buy the smart phone. Likewise, we will also talk about some errors that we have found on the smartphone. There are not many, and they are not important, because in some cases we are talking about characteristics that only the Samsung Galaxy S5 among Android smartphones, such as the fingerprint reader. However, it seems important to highlight it. Do not stop visiting us next week to see the complete analysis of the Samsung Galaxy S5 as you have never seen it before.
