Windows 10 didn’t get what you wanted
Microsoft believed that with Windows 10 it would go around the world of smartphones. Yes, it is true that Windows 10 has achieved great acceptance in the world of computers. In part, it is logical because users did not like Windows 8, and they were all easily going to update to a version that would already have the features they were asking for, in addition to the fact that updating would be free. However, the key was that all those users who had Windows 10 on their computer, which were going to be many, wanted their smartphone and their computer to have special compatibility. That was Microsoft’s great asset. But the opposite has happened. Microsoft has fallen in sales of its smartphones in many countries. Windows 10 mobiles are not sold. It is certainly not the future in the world of smartphones. A pity, perhaps, because it promised. In fact, we were saying that there was a problem for Android a few months ago, which was that both Apple and Microsoft had a desktop operating system and a mobile and tablet operating system, while Google did not have such a complete ecosystem.
Of course, while Apple loses profits compared to previous years, and Microsoft sells fewer and fewer mobiles, more and more mobiles are sold with the Android operating system.
In Android there is room for improvement
That said, it must also be said that we can expect better and better Android phones. It is something that we do not see so easily in other operating systems. Better and better Windows phones would lead to more expensive phones, and probably fewer sales. IPhones are good in and of themselves. There is scope, a lot of scope, to make iPhone of a better level. But as Apple does not want to update its smartphones much according to what the market demands, we see mobiles with characteristics of previous generations. The advantage of Android is that there are many manufacturers with the same operating system, and they all compete with each other, both in price and in features. They offer different options, and it is easy that in the end the best camera, the best processor, the best screen, or the best battery emerges.
Android will expand around the world
There is still a large part of the world that does not have smartphones. When all of these regions have smartphones, will they be buying iPhones? It is possible that a part does. But the most likely thing is that they buy mobiles as cheap as possible, and that is always Android. Today we have talked about a mobile, the Honor 5, with a price below 100 euros, which already offers us good performance to run standard apps.
That gives Android the ability to expand around the world, and reach over millions of users, while making it very difficult for iOS and Windows 10, not to mention all the other operating systems that hardly need to be mentioned.
Android on desktop
And there would still be one last pending issue for Android. The desk. A desktop interface for Android would be crucial. And it is something that we will have to see sooner or later. Chrome OS is not always going to be the operating system for Chromebooks. At some point Android will become the operating system for Google computers. And we will see if at that time it does not become a great rival for Windows 10 as well. This has to do above all with the new generations. And yes, for us that of using a mouse, or a touchpad, and a keyboard is common, and it seems that mobile interfaces are worse. But for the new generations that arrive, accustomed to using screens from a very young age, that of using a keyboard, or a mouse, will be something of the last century, almost like what typewriters are for us today. And we will see if then there is a radical change in the world of computers.
